Almah: Fragile equality
29/10/08 || Euthanatos
What a stupid, silly fucking album. I thought I’d take on Edu Falaschi’s (lead singer from Angra) Almah project on because everyone was raving about it. I was curious to know if, with Angra apparently on hold forever, Falaschi had grown a pair of balls and was playing real heavy metal, like people were saying. Not that Almah’s first album was any good, but hey, everyone can fuck up a debut, right?
Well, fuck me, then, because “Fragile Equality” is just as shit. Actually, it’s worse, because I actually had expectations about this. Everyone in the band is decent, particularly Felipe Andreoli, the bass player, also in Angra, has a great style and groove. But the song writing is just girly and there’s no heaviness in this release at all. It’s more of the same melodic cock gay metal we’ve heard a thousand times, and guess what, a thousand and one does not make it finally interesting.
Sure, Falaschi is singing a bit more aggressive now, but that doesn’t mean he’s any better. Actually, if there is one singer that seems to be getting progressively worse, it’s him. The irony of it, this shitbag actually goes around Brazil giving singing workshops. Fancy that. Hey, want to learn how to completely ruin your voice and sing out of key? Pay me a few bucks, you got it! Fuck that. When it comes down to it, I don’t know what’s worse; Angra’s latest albums or this bucket of piss. I guess Angra’s two amazing guitar players can make up for their lack of creativity and balls in the riff-making department. No such redeeming quality can be found here.
And don’t even get me started on the lyrical theme. You figure out what they’re like, with song titles like “Invisible Cage” and “Magic Flame”. A magic flame up your ass, Falaschi. Maybe the youngsters or the Japanese crowd will dig this, but on the whole, this is not the kind of thing you want to show to a group of friends. Trust me, they’ll never look at you the same way.
The cover: I like it, even though it’s heavy on the computer art, it still has a lot of depth and does stimulate the eye. Shame it’s the only good thing about this album.
3 ball-less queer-folk out of 10.
